Hello! I’m Malcolm. I am a technical designer. Currently, I am working at Northwood Studios on SCP: Secret Laboratory and am pursuing a Masters of Science in Game Design and Development at Bradley University.

SCP: Secret Lab
Oct 2023 - Present

SCP: Secret Laboratory is an multiplayer asymmetric-horror FPS game by Northwood Studios. Players take on the roles of either humans trying to escape from a massive underground facility or monsters trying to kill everyone. Secret Lab is a live service game, so as a game designer, I am responsible for designing new major content, iterating on core game systems, and maintaining game balance across updates.

Cardificer

Cardificer is a roguelike dungeon crawler where players build a deck of cards that transform into magical attacks and navigate a labyrinth full of cardboard monsters. Cards can also be combined through the game's original "chording" mechanic to create attacks with new effects. I am responsible for prototyping cards, enemies, and levels as well as designing the game's core systems and gameplay.

BladeCaster

BladeCaster is an action-platforming game where players swap between an arsenal of weapons to navigate stages and fight enemies. I designed the game's weapons, enemies, levels, and core mechanics and implemented all of them without any 3rd party plugins. I also created most of the game's visual assets.

Love Birds
April 2023

Love Birds is a cute sandbox game where players collect words to fill in a Mad Libs-style love letter by flying into things around the local park. I designed the core systems of the game including the movement, word collection, and obstacle mechanics. It was made as a part of Ludum Dare 53.

Dream Reaper
Jan 2023

Dream Reaper is a turn-based puzzle game where players avoid monsters and solve puzzles. The game has a deceptively simple design that obscures hidden techniques that add depth to the gameplay. I was responsible for designing the game's mechanics and creating some of its levels.
